As the Chief Executive of TANZ eCampus, Pamela Simpson believes that education is an incredibly valuable gift that has the power to transform lives. As such, her career over the last 17 years has had an incredible focus on improving educational opportunities and support services for students across New Zealand.
Through her passion and drive, she was at the helm of a major paradigm shift in the education sector, confronting the barriers to tertiary education head on, and pioneering the way for exciting, engaging, innovative and accessible learning opportunities for students.
When not hard at work, Pamela can be found at her home in North Canterbury with her husband, two teenage sons, and cat named Charlie

Paul Conder is the Chief Financial Officer for TANZ eCampus. Based in Auckland, Paul leads all financial matters for TANZ eCampus and offers support with business and commercial decisions.
What Paul loves most about TANZ eCampus is being involved in an innovative and growing company early in its development.
His other business endeavours include being Director of All Green Lights Ltd, Chair of Mainly Music International Trust, Chair of Ako Hiko Education Trust, Independent Member of the Auckland Council Audit and Risk Committee.

With over 20+ years’ experience in the retail and trade sector working in senior operational and change management roles, the quality of TANZ’s eCampus business systems are in safe hands with Bryan Moore.
After working 8 years as an independent consultant/senior project manager with clients covering retail, agri-supplies, health, and professional services, Bryan is a valued member of our senior leadership team.
When he is not in the office, Bryan enjoys playing a few rounds of golf, photographing his favourite things, or tinkering with stuff in his shed.

As TANZ’s Commercial Manager, Graeme is responsible for seeking out new opportunities for the organisation and validating partnership proposals. He is a successful entrepreneur and company director, with over 25 years of experience in the technology sector. He has founded several successful companies and is an Associate Professor at the University of Canterbury Centre for Entrepreneurship.
Graeme calls Christchurch and London home and is an avid traveller. When he is not working, he likes to spend time exploring the outdoors and performing as an amateur magician

As Product and Service manager, John is responsible for ensuring that the implementation of new online courses run smoothly. He also oversees the design, development and ongoing maintenance of courses. With over 24 years spent working in the tertiary sector as a lecturer and manager, John knows a thing or two about education and is committed to making the students’ experience of TANZ eCampus' online courses the best that it can be.
When he is not working. John enjoys checking out the local cafés with his wife and spending time with family.

Throughout her whole working life, Jackie has been connected to educational institutions in some way – including working for 20 years as a research scientist in the field of human reproduction. Her role at TANZ eCampus is Academic and Quality Manager. Jackie ensures that all programmes and courses meet academic and quality requirements. Her number one priority is the continual improvement of learner experiences and outcomes.
What Jackie loves most about her role is making a difference to people’s lives through study.

With a strong passion for making education work for all, Ali is the Learning Delivery and Support Manager for TANZ eCampus. She has extensive experience in the education sector having previously worked as the CEO of a large educational services company providing support to educators from early childhood through the schooling sector.
Alongside her management role at TANZ eCampus, Ali also owns her own consultancy business, teaches leadership at Ara Institute of Canterbury, and chairs the board for a couple of not for profit organisations that work with young people.
What Ali loves most about TANZ eCampus is seeing learner successes- especially if they have overcome challenges to succeed.

Having held a number of Educational Technology leadership roles in both New Zealand and the UK over the past 20 years, Shane brings a wealth of knowledge to the role of Business Intelligence & Learning Analytics Manager.
Shane’s role is to deliver data-driven insights and actionable intelligence across the business to help others make informed decisions, understand problems, and identify solutions. In a nutshell, he helps others to be better at what they do, by understanding the story told by the data.
Shane has a Master of Arts (Distinction) in English Literature from Otago University and has academic interests in Illustrative Criticism, Word & Image Theory, Romanticism, and the works of William Blake and John Milton.

Dayarnn grew up in Mount Maunganui where she enjoyed playing sport, beaching on the weekends and spending time with her whānau. She studied at the University of Waikato where she gained a Bachelor of Communication Studies. Upon leaving uni she worked for Air New Zealand in their Government and Industry Affairs team. Dayarnn and her fiance moved to Hong Kong where she taught english and travelled. Once they returned to Aotearoa she worked as a student advisor in ōtautahi and took up further study to support her desire to make tikianga Māori more accessible in the workplace.

Rachel was born and mostly grew up in Christchurch, completing her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of Canterbury. Enjoyable stints living in the USA, UK, Australia and Ireland followed. Rachel has worked here and abroad as an English Language Teacher, often in dual teaching/pastoral care roles, and for the last five years as a Learning Advisor at the Academic Skills Centre at UC. Rachel strongly values education and loves working with students to help them develop the skills they need to meet their academic goals. She is really looking forward to being part of the TANZ ecampus team.
Outside of work Rachel enjoys cooking, gardening, current affairs, walking (and talking) with friends and going for a run. She and her partner have two teenage sons who occasionally emerge from their rooms, usually in search of food.

With many years of experience in the tertiary education sector and a genuine desire to help our potential learners achieve their study goals, Leanne joins the TANZ eCampus team as one of our Enrolment Coordinators.
Besides being a mum of two daughters, Leanne has previous experience as a Student Advisor for a Disability Student Support Team and as a Tutor for a travel & tourism tertiary institution.
Leanne helps to solve any enrolment problems that may pop up. Whether that is helping a potential learner to initially decide what area of study is right for them, or ensuring that all the required enrolment and documents are provided for a seamless enrolment transition, and everything in between!
Outside of work, Leanne loves to go for a good walk. She also loves classic cars and horses!

Having worked in the enrolments department of our tertiary partner NMIT, Erika joins the TANZ eCampus team in the role of Enrolment Coordinator.
In her role Erika, helps our learners with their study plans and course transfers, making sure that the enrolment process happens as smoothly as possible. By understanding the learners’ aspirations and lifestyles, Erika can recommend the best study option for them.
Erika is married with two children, so she loves that the flexibility at TANZ eCampus allows her to help learners with their study/career path, without having to sacrifice her time with her family.
Outside of work, Erika love to go for walks, reading a book when she gets the chance, and having a drink with friends.

Tracey Carter is one of our Enrolment Coordinators. She helps our learners find the right study pathway for them, tailoring study plans that work around our students’ lifestyles and commitments.
Being a stay at home mum, Tracey can relate to a lot of our TANZ eCampus learners who have kids, work, and also want to study. She knows that it can be quite a juggling act and can relate to those students in that sense. Tracey has two little girls aged 3 ½ and 2.
Similar to our learners, Tracey loves the flexibility around being able to work from anywhere, and being able to work in the evenings and times that suit her - so she can still spend a chunk of her time with her kids and partner, Nathan, who also works for TANZ eCampus.

As our enrolments administrator, Sarah is responsible for ensuring the enrolment process is a smooth and easy one, and that any problems are dealt with quickly. Sarah enjoys developing new processes and systems so that as the number of learners grow, their experience of enrolling remains a pleasant one.
Outside of work, Sarah is kept busy with raising her son, caring for her horse and mastering the skill of making melt in your mouth macarons.

Janine started her working life as a Dressmaker straight out of school, then ventured into study to be an ECE Teacher in her twenties. She decided a change from nappies and day time sleeps (not hers) was needed so by the time she turned 40 she resigned with no clear plan. She wanted to upskill her computer skills, and so she went back to study Business Computing. Fortunately on completion of her studies she secured an Admin Role in a PTE and the rest, as they say, is history.
Janine has a 9 year old son that she is on a quest to keep active, and so you may find her walking the streets of Christchurch to model to her son an active, healthy lifestyle.
- Dr. Frina AlbertynFacilitator
Dr Frina Albertyn, as a TANZ eCampus facilitator, offers support and guidance to learners studying in our computing courses, including Web Fundamentals and Information Management. She has a wealth of experience with business and IT learners and is widely acknowledged for her research outputs.
Frina is passionate about encouraging and enabling students to succeed. What Frina loves about TANZ eCampus is that the flexible online platform allows students to improve their qualifications while continuing with their other responsibilities. Learners can still be in the workplace and working towards a qualification.
Outside of work, Frina enjoys tramping, trout and salmon fishing, and developing a lifestyle block.

Knowing that students who complete study will most likely experience career benefits to help their future is what drives Melanie Baynes to teach.
“I enjoy working with students throughout their learning journey and seeing how they go from strength to strength in all aspects of their work. TANZ eCampus offers people the opportunity to study in their own time, yet be connected to a team of people who are committed to providing an excellent learning experience for them,” she says.
Melanie is a facilitator of leadership courses from the New Zealand Certificate of Business and the New Zealand Diploma of Business.
- Nathan ChickenFacilitator
Nathan is qualified in adult education, E-learning and business. He is currently studying his Master’s in Applied Management by distance so understands the difficulties that studying by distance can create.
He has been teaching in the tertiary sector for the past ten years across a range of business management and foundation studies papers and knows all present challenges and positive learning experiences.
He lives on his farm with his wife, two dogs and their horses
- Dale BennettFacilitator
Dale brings a wealth of experience to TANZ eCampus teaching qualifications. She has worked with educators across a wide range of tertiary programmes, involving an equally wide range of learning approaches and environments. Dale has been actively involved in designing, developing, facilitating and managing programmes.
Dale’s focus is on enabling learners. She is very enthusiastic about online learning opportunities and enjoys getting to know what is important for learners from many different sectors across the country. Dale knows about the importance of developing relationships in learning and how effective collaboration, peer and facilitator support contributes to successful learning outcomes.
Dale has a wide range of creative and family interests. She volunteers at Nelson’s Suter Art Gallery and enjoys making the most of the wonderful lifestyle available in the region.
- Marie BerghanFacilitator
Marie facilitates a range of our business administration courses. What she loves about TANZ eCampus is seeing the students complete and being able to interact with them even though not in a face-to-face situation.
Outside of TANZ eCampus, Marie works for NorthTec facilitating a Small Business blended learning programme. She also belongs to an organisation called Business and Professional Women (BPW) which is a national and international organisation that advocates for the rights of women.
In her limited spare time she enjoys reading, movies, craft work and spending time with family.
- Roanne BirchFacilitator
After 25 years in tertiary education and 20 years in the IT industry, Roanne has a passion for helping people of all ages, and all cultures, to learn new skills. She thinks it is amazing to communicate with learners all over NZ, or all over the world, in an online environment, and to see the progress made.
For a number of years now Roanne has worked largely online from her home base, and has worked with many tertiary institutes, so being a facilitator with TANZ eCampus is an ideal role for her.
Roanne lives in Thames, on the Coromandel peninsula. She considers this one of the most beautiful natural environments in New Zealand.
In her spare time, Roanne likes to garden and grow edibles such as vegetables and herbs as well as enjoy the company of friends and family, especially over lunch on a sunny Sunday.
- Melanie ClarksonFacilitator
Melanie is passionate about continual learning and development in all areas of life, and is always looking for opportunities for challenge and growth. Learning is a life long journey and she enjoys assisting learners through this part of their travels with TANZ eCampus so that they can achieve further work and life goals.
As well as being a facilitator, Melanie is also a member of the TANZ eCampus Product Development Team where she develops and maintains engaging courses to ensure your needs as a learner are met
Outside of work Melanie is passionate about the environment. She regularly researches how she can improve the sustainability of her lifestyle. She also loves travelling. "I think I will always be in awe of all the stunning and diverse landscapes New Zealand has to offer".
- Gill EntwistleFacilitator
With great experience and insights to share from working as a tutor for many years, Gill Entwistle has a strong desire to share her skills and knowledge with her learners who are studying one of our teacher education courses. The support from Gill enables her learners to reflect and develop as tutors, making their learning environment more inclusive and engaging, so their students benefit hugely.
Gill enjoys the flexibility of TANZ eCampus. She has even been able to communicate with one of her learners when she was in the UK and he was in Argentina.
- Shirley GibbsFacilitator
Shirley is Canterbury-based, born and bred. She lives in the Selwyn District on a lifestyle block with her husband and two dogs. She moved to her property to give her three sons somewhere to ride their motocross bikes. They have all gone now and started to give them grandchildren – so hopefully another generation will get as much fun out of the paddock as the last one did! Shirley says she loves being in the countryside with the upside of being just 30 minutes from central Christchurch – the best of both worlds!
She been involved in teaching and training for the past two decades. For much of that time she was a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Informatics & Enabling Technologies at Lincoln University. In this role she taught and researched in the area of workplace type computing, interface design and human computer interactions.
- Alison HelliwellFacilitator
Alison is a Registered Architect (UK) and began her teaching career at Manchester School of Architecture. She went on and obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in teaching and e-learning.
About 15 years ago, Alison and her family moved to NZ and since then she has continued to work in the construction industry as well as teaching at various polytechnics and looking after graduates in the office environment. She is passionate about the environment and the exciting future the construction industry can play in sustainability and making better communities.
- Dr. Merle HearnsFacilitator
Merle was recently awarded a doctorate in education from the University of New England however she says her greatest achievement is her six amazing children. Her eldest is a lecturer at Auckland University and her youngest is a fifth-year medical student. She has had to balance work and family commitments and understands the pressure of being an adult student.
Her hobbies include digital creation, art, photography, music (She plays the piano and organ), cooking/baking, family history, writing, virtual worlds, and blogging.
- Steve HobsonFacilitator
A chartered accountant and teacher, Steve Hobson facilitates the New Zealand Diploma in Business - Introduction to Accounting and Taxation course.
As a facilitator, he says watching students succeed, no matter what age, no matter what level is very satisfying.
“It’s a real highlight when you see something ‘click’ with a student. Small successes are just as satisfying as the large,” says Steve.
- Fiona IngramFacilitator
Fiona is a facilitator for the New Zealand Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education. She enjoys seeing students grow in confidence and knowledge as they progress through the course. With over 25 years experience of working in the education sector, Fiona is well suited to the role of facilitator.
She also works for NMIT as a tutor and teacher.
In her spare time Fiona enjoys being with her family and is an active participant in the arts community where she choreographs, teaches and performs dance. She also writes and performs her own songs.
- Sunaina KaushikFacilitator
With experience as a banker, finance tutor, and as a sales, marketing and events coordinator for an HR Software company, Sunaina has the practical expertise needed to facilitate some of our small business courses. Her experience and knowledge allows her to bring a practitioner’s perspective to the academic learning environment which benefits the overall learning of the students.
When a learner signs up for a course they are taking a leap of faith. Seeing these learners complete their courses successfully and come one step closer to achieving their goals is what drives Sunaina to give her very best to them.
Outside of work, Sunaina can be found chasing after her active and borderline naughty Burmese kitten Meeku. When he is sleeping, she can be found enjoying a bit of running/walking, listening to Bob Dylan and some of her Hindi favourites, and sometimes, like Einstein most eloquently said, ‘simply roasting in the sun!’
- Dr. Stephanie KellyFacilitator
Dr. Stephanie Kelly has a PHD in Sociology and is one of the facilitators for the Teaching Approaches for Learner Success course as part of the New Zealand certificate in Adult and Tertiary Teaching (Level 6).
She enjoys seeing students embrace the opportunities that online learning offers and succeeding in their chosen fields of learning. Stephanie also works as a teacher in a blended learning Master of Professional Practice in Health and Social Services programme.
Outside of work, Stephanie likes to spend her leisure time travelling, reading and writing, walking, and yoga.
- Joy KuhnsFacilitator
Joy describes herself as a lifelong learner, and completed both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees part time, while working full time and having a family.
She spent nearly 30 years in California, in start-up companies as a Business Manager, and for ten of those years, she worked for an on-site company at NASA Ames Research Center where she became an Inside Consultant to the Space Technology Division. This involved working on strategy, and she became the Vice President of HR for the 100-person company. During that time, Joy lived through the challenges and changes created by the computer revolution, 9-11, and the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.
Upon returning to Christchurch, Joy taught at Ara (formerly CPIT) and also worked as an HR Manager for a thriving logistics organisation. She now runs her own leadership consulting business and is so happy to also be back teaching as well!
Joy now lives in a small cottage by the beach and her favourite activities are walking at the beach and estuary, meeting up with friends, reading, going camping and spending time with her family.

Pauline is driven by assisting learners to make progress, learn new skills and achieve their goals.
“A highlight for me of online learning is working with learners at both ends of the spectrum. I enjoy helping those who are, or have been, in the workforce to gain qualifications and to reflect their experience and I enjoy working with those learners who are starting on their learning journey and to see their progress and confidence gained”.
Pauline facilitates courses in the Certificate in Business (Administration and Technology).
- Keith McClymontFacilitator
Keith is Auckland-based and Auckland born and bred. He lives in the Waitakere Ranges and really loves the New Zealand bush. One of his pastimes is taking photos of the native birds as they land in his backyard – just point and shoot but he says he get some good shots every now and then. He also does a bit of gardening and landscaping – but gets lazy and the weeds take over...a work in progress. And, believe it or not, his other main pastime is online study related to teaching and learning online. This has been a real interest for him for some time and is looking at publishing something related to this in the coming years.
Keith has been teaching in a polytechnic for the past 20 years, and enjoys the both sides of the screen – being an online student and being an online facilitator.
- Don McLarenFacilitator
Don's tertiary study has included a Master of Management majoring in project management and a Master of Business Administration, both he completed as a distance learning student while working full time
He divided his career into two parts the first 20 years was working in the telecommunications sector and the last 20 years has been in the tertiary sector. He has been a CEO of two organisations and spent five years on a remote island off New Zealand and four years in Australia in executive positions.
The largest project he managed was a $35 million infrastructure project, the most interesting was a telecommunications project at Scott Base in Antarctica and the most difficult was project managing his daughter’s wedding.
- Kim MearFacilitator
Kim Mear says that one of the perks of her role as a facilitator for Applied Accounting is watching students grow in confidence as they work their way through the course and begin to understand, the sometimes complex, concepts of accounting.
Kim owns her own Accountancy firm and incorporates examples of her work as a Chartered Accountant into the online learning experience for her students. In her spare time she likes to read and undertake further research. For her, education is a life-long experience.
- Bronwyn MogridgeFacilitator
Bronwyn originally trained as a high school teacher in the days of shorthand and typing teaching in Western Australia, but has had many, many years in the tertiary sector in New Zealand and for the past few years has been teaching business administration at levels 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Bronwyn has a Diploma of Tertiary Teaching, a Post Graduate certificate and a Master of Teaching and knows the challenges of studying, working and raising a family and all the complications this can bring.
In her spare time, you can find her walking the Withers (our local hills) or at the Stadium trying to get fit by swimming or working out. She loves socialising and really enjoys meeting new people.
She has even tried skydiving which was a present from her children!
- Wendy O’ConnorFacilitator
Wendy studied part time whilst working full time to complete her Accounting degree, and then studied full time for her Masters Degree in Finance. Her passion has always been teaching, and she has taught in the tertiary environment for many years. She also enjoy keeping up to date with what is going on in Industry and providing bookkeeping services and Xero set up, training and support for small to medium sized businesses.
- Tania ParkerFacilitator
Tania Parker facilitates a range of project management courses for TANZ eCampus and brings considerable experience to this role. She loves seeing learners’ knowledge develop and strengthen and is keenly interested in how innovative course design can assist that process. Tania enjoys working with many different people from across New Zealand. She especially enjoys hearing from students when they achieve their education and career goals. Tania is a keen mountain biker and kayaker. Most weekends she and her family are out in the forest.
- Kim Proctor-WesternFacilitator
A Specialist Fisheries Maritime Lawyer, Kim works part time as a facilitator for TANZ eCampus offering her expertise to students completing courses from the New Zealand Diploma in Business.
“Teaching is in my DNA, my parents are both educators, my siblings are educators and my grandmother too! I can’t help myself,” says Kim. “I love to share knowledge and guide people to apply that knowledge. Recently one of my students came to me with a contract she had drafted, I couldn’t offer her much by the way of comments and improvements as she had done such a good job! And I empowered her to do that!”

Donna Petry is a senior facilitator with more than 26 years’ experience lecturing in the tertiary sector.
“Helping people to grow, develop and achieve their goals is what drives me to work with students,” says Donna. “The TANZ eCampus online learning platform really helps students to move through the courses with relative ease. It’s great.”
Donna facilitates courses from the New Zealand Diploma in Business.
- Eileen RoddyFacilitator
Eileen Roddy facilitates TANZ eCampus Business (Administration & Technology) courses. She is a highly experienced educator with a keen interest in flexible learning opportunities, enabling learners to fit their study around existing work and family commitments. Eileen enjoys working with students on their journey towards achieving their career goals. Her interests include family, travel, reading and gardening.
- David StephensFacilitator
David has completed a Diploma in Business Management and a Degree in Aquaculture and Marine Conservation. He is currently studying a Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainable Aquaculture with the intention of completing a Research Masters next year. He enjoys learning and while it may sound like a cliché truly believe that “doors” previously closed are opened to individuals participating in further education.
David is a father to four beautiful children who keep him on his toes and has a great passion for the marine environment and travel. He was a Dive Instructor when younger and still tries to get into the water with his partner when time allows.
- Liz TrudeauFacilitator
Liz Trudeau is one of the facilitators for the New Zealand Certificate in Computing. It is a role that she is perfectly suited for given that when she is not helping students with their studies, she is also a systems analyst in IT support for TANZ eCampus.
Liz enjoys seeing students fulfil their potential and gain confidence as their study progresses, improving their ability to self-promote and grow within any career they choose.
Her interests outside of IT include crochet, cross stich, music, films and raising her children.
- Dr. Michael VerhaartFacilitator
As a lecturer/associate professor, Michael has been involved in facilitating Information Technology courses in the tertiary sector for over 30 years. Highlights for Michael during that time include students developing web sites that are used by real businesses and facilitating classes using modern technologies.
“Online learning enables students to continue with their professional and personal lives and organise their learning around this”.
Michael facilitates courses in the Computing Programmes including NZ Certificate in Computing (Intermediate User - Level 3) and New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology Essentials (Level 4).
- Valerie WestFacilitator
Valerie West has had an extensive career in adult education. Previous roles have seen her tutoring, facilitating, coaching and mentoring business programmes for a variety of educational organisations, such as NorthTec, Māori Women’s Development Inc. and Te Wananga o Aotearoa, where she currently tutors the business programmes.
Valerie strongly believes that adult education positively changes lives. It creates the pathway to build a better, relevant future for learners. She is grateful for the opportunity to encourage a learner’s vision (the what), support their mission (the how) and inspire their purpose (the why) to achievement.
In her role at TANZ eCampus, Valerie is a facilitator for our range of Retail courses.
